Why should I submit a report?

Economic crime and corruption have far-reaching negative consequences. The financial damages alone every year amount to hundreds of millions of Euros. In many cases a few perpetrators enrich themselves at the expense of many victims.

Maybe you are aware of such damaging activities. By reporting them you can help to detect financial damages for the companies or the state at an early stage and participate in the clarification of serious crimes.

Which reports help the Office of Prosecution for Economic Crime and Corruption?

All reports regarding violations of legal provisions in the area of competence of the Office of Prosecution for Economic Crime and Corruption are registered and investigated.

The area of competence comprises reports regarding:

• corruption
• economic crime
• social fraud
• accounting fraud and capital market crimes
• money laundering

During the process of reporting you will receive detailed information on the possible categories your report fits into.

How does a report work? How do I set up a postbox?

If you would like to submit a report either with your name or anonymously, click the “Submit report” button at the top of our info page.

The reporting process consists of 4 steps:

1. First you are asked to read information on protecting your anonymity and to answer a security query.
2. On the next page you are asked for the category of your report.
3. On the reporting page, phrase your information in your own words and select answers to questions about the case. You may use up to 5,000 characters in the free-text field, which corresponds to a full DIN A4 page. You may also attach small files up to 5 MB to support your report. Keep in mind that electronic documents may contain information about the author. After you sent your report, you will receive a reference number as proof that you have sent this report.
4. After this, please set up your own, secured postbox. This will be used by us to send you feedback, information about the progress of your case and answered questions.

If you already have a secured postbox, you can reach this postbox directly via the “Login” button. Here as well, you must first answer a security query.

As long as you yourself do not input any data that allows conclusions to be drawn about your identity, the BKMS^® System protects your anonymity technically.

We assure you that we are not interested in your identity but only in the case you report. The aim is to clarify suspicions and to solve crimes.

How do I receive feedback and still remain anonymous?

The paramount principle of the BKMS^® System is the protection of the whistleblower. The operational effectiveness of the method of preserving anonymity is certified.

When setting up your secured postbox you should choose your pseudonym/user name and password yourself. The anonymity of your report is maintained using encryption and other special security procedures. You will not be asked for personal information about yourself at any point in the reporting process. Please do not enter any data which gives any clues as to your identity. In addition we would like to inform you, that in case of opening a criminal proceeding your report will be part of the file. The suspect, victim and a victim joining the criminal proceeding as a private party have access to the file. Please do not use a PC provided by your employer for submitting your report.

The Office of Prosecution for Economic Crime and Corruption will give you feedback on what happens with your report via the secured postbox. If details are not clear you will be asked questions but you will remain anonymous also during this dialog.
